Art Exhibit & Concert for Cancer Awareness
Nicholasville, KY, June 13, 2006: The Art Depository, 106 E. Maple Street, Nicholasville, KY will host an artist’s reception for ten visual artists working in multiple media on June 30, 2006 from 4 pm to 8 pm. Following the reception will be a concert at Nicholasville Presbyterian Church, 101 North 1st Street at 8 pm featuring Wishing Chair and Jeff Branham. The reception is free and open to the public. We are asking for donations at the door of the Concert for Cancer Awareness. Wishing Chair and Jeff Branham are graciously donating their time and talent to the cancer awareness cause. Signed copies of their current CD's will be available at the Art Depository during the full 6 week exhibit.
The Essence, Composure, Healing exhibit focuses on the ways in which art can be used for healing purposes. These include therapeutic expression of emotions, management of illness-induced stresses on patients and their families, prevention of burnout for medical professionals, and the creation of uplifting visuals in support of positive imaging. The use of these images is effective both in aiding recovery from illness and as a means of maintaining good health in today's stressful society. Trained and intuitive artists can create images to aid others in visualizing personal health and well being. They can also help anyone to express themselves through personal art-making.
Exhibitors in the Essence, Composure, HEALING show include Kentucky artists Karen Telford of Wellington, Violet Vago of Salt Lick, Joe Sartor, Carolyn Boyd and Jennifer Reis of Morehead, Geraldine Lewis of Isonville, Laura Eklund of Olive Hill, Bobbie Stout, Bill Holland, and Margaret Stafford of Nicholasville, Sarah Jane Gray and Mary Kuster of Lexington, as well as Stanley P. Shifferd of Beijing, China, and Denise Fernandez of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The exhibit will be on display from June 14 through July 22, 2006.
Wishing Chair, the folk-roots partnership of Miriam Davidson and Kiya Heartwood, is known for their engaging performances, haunting harmonies and award winning songs. Any subject is fair game: from politics to coal strikes, punk bars to Calamity Jane. Jeff Branham is a singer songwriter from Pikeville, KY, with over twenty-five years in the music business traveling through 42 states and three countries.
Most importantly and dear to his heart is gospel music. Jeff feels his calling is to promote and expand Christian music in anyway possible. “I love all types of music but Gospel music is where my heart is. I believe there is a lot of good music but God’s music should be the best.”
Jeff has been blessed to write a song about a painful time in his family’s recent past. “August 2005, our oldest sister Tammy Kinney, went to be with the Lord after a battle with cancer. God gave me a song called FOREVER FREE (song for TAMMY) to help heal a wound. The song has become a regular on radio including some XM stations and I continue to receive e-mails and letters from folks who are healing from losing someone dear. Although the song sparks emotions, the message is to keep our faith in Christ and when we leave this life, we will truly be FOREVER FREE. May God continue to bless Tammy’s memory and our family and all those who face struggles.”
